The Network of Youth for Sustainable Development Goals (#NGYouthSDGs) has launched a new project, “Empowering Youth Civil Society to Build Stronger Communities in Nigeria,” aimed at equipping youth-led civil society organizations to drive climate action policies and implementation.
With support from the German Missions in Nigeria, the project will work with 15 youth organisations from five states to build their capacity to support Nigeria’s National Adaptation Plan (NAP) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). The project aims to raise awareness about climate issues, create a Local Adaptation Plan of Action, and provide technical support to state governments and ministries.
According to Joshua Alade, Founder of NGYouthSDGs, “This project aligns with our mission to resource youth leaders and youth-led organizations to influence policies that enable young Nigerians to lead and thrive.”
The German government has recognized the critical role of youth in shaping Nigeria’s future and is providing essential funding for the project. The project’s goal is to strengthen the voices of young people and foster meaningful youth engagement in climate action in Nigeria, contributing to global efforts against climate change.
The project’s importance cannot be overstated, as Nigeria and Africa face significant climate change challenges. By empowering youth civil society organizations, the project aims to enhance climate action, raise awareness, create a Local Climate Action Network, and support youth innovations.
NGYouthSDGs, with the support of the German Missions in Nigeria, is committed to empowering young Nigerians to take an active role in shaping their future and combating climate change.
Youth organisations leading climate action in Delta, Enugu, Ondo, Kaduna, and Nasarawa states are encouraged to apply for the project https://climatevoices.nigerianyouthsdgs.org/
